One on hand it’s really dry, reducing our behavior in places like Tumblr and Vimeo to formulas and Gini coefficients and scatter plots. It makes me wonder about the communities that I want to create or coordinate or explicitly cultivate… and how to make the love and the metrics dance. It also reminds me that it’s good to have places, real or imagined, where none of this matters… places that are just home.

meaninglesssyllables:

“Experimental study of inequality and unpredictability in an artificial cultural market.”, etc.

"I think the bottom line for me was that I wanted to try something new, screw the challenges. has just announced a new service for music fans: “PodLists.” Because of the massive amount of playable search results available on the SeeqPod service - 12 million at the moment and ever-growing - it can be difficult to find music that you like. Sites like Last.fm rely on social recommendations to help you find new artists, but SeeqPod’s take is a bit different. Instead of launching social features, they’ll be posting fresh, customized playlists to the site’s homepage on a daily basis.

Each PodList will have an identifying theme - for example, today’s include the “SeeqPod Top 20,” “Old School Rap,” and “Funk For Ya Trunk.” The idea is that instead of having social recommendations in place, you can be exposed to more kinds of music by playing a daily playlist that highlights some of the tracks that can be found on SeeqPod. In a way, this also turns SeeqPod into an online radio station of sorts - one where they don’t bombard you with the same tunes over and over again, but one where the station changes identities every day.

tychomusic

tychomusic

iso50

iso50

Who's laughing now?

Who's laughing now?:
jonathan-deamer:

Oasis’s “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory” album has seen a 200% increase in sales since Jay-Z did a mocking cover version of Wonderwall at Glastonbury.

Sock, Vol. 3: High Life - matt

wesharemusic:

Just in time for the 4th of July I’ve served you up another hearty bowl of soul/rock/sock. There’s some real nuggets tucked in here, so just let this one ride its course. This one just DRIVES!
