Belcalís Almánzar, better known as Cardi
B, is a rapper and song writer from the US. Cardi was born on October 11th 1992 in New
York City. She is of Caribbean origins, her mom is from
Trinidad y Tobago and her dad is of Dominican origins. She was raised in the Bronx, but she also
spent lots of time with her grandma in the neighborhood of Washington Heights. She has a little sister she is very close
to, Hennessy Carolina, who has millions of followers in social networks and is studying
to become a fashion designer. Cardi B’s artistic name comes from the Bacardi
rum. Since her sister is called Hennessy, as the
brandy, when she was little everybody used to call her Bacardi. She decided to shorten it, put the B at the
end, and this was the result. Cardi B went to Renassance High School for
Musical Theatre & Technology and, since she was young, she’s always been part of street
bands. She worked part time at an Amish supermarket
while she was stdudying at a Community College. Trying to escape from poverty and from an
abusive relationship, she decided to become a stripper to save enough money and have the
life she wanted. Thanks to her characteristic personality,
harshness and honesty, she started to become popular on social networks, publishing on
Instagram and Vine short videos about her everyday life as a dancer. The number of fans started growing and, in
November 2015, Cardi made her debut in music with a remix of the song Boom Boom by Shaggy. A month later, she joined the cast of the
sixth season of the reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York, in channel VH1. IN March 2016, she released her first mixtape,
Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1, under KSR label, and in January 2017 she released a second
mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2. After fiishing the 7th season of the show
in February, she quit to dedicate to music full time. She signed a contract with Atlantic Records
and started to be the supporting artist of The Lox. In June, her single with Atlantic was released,
“Bodak Yellow”, which rapidly became a viral success. In 3 months, she made it to the top of the
Billboard Hot 100. Cardi B made history, becoming the second
rapper to get a number 1 as a soloist. Soon after, Cardi was nominated to 9 categories
of the BET Hip Hop Awards, taking 5 of them home. In September, Cardi collaborated with the
rappers G-Eazy and ASAP Rocky (éisap rocky) in the song No Limit, which also became a
hit in the US. In October, she released MotorSport, with
Migos (migos) and Nicki Minaj and in December Bartier Cardi with 21 Savage. And speaking of Migos, we have to mention
that since August 2017 she is in a relationship with the rapper Offset. They got engaged during fall and on April
7th 2018, Cardi announced she was pregnant with her first child. Cardi became the 3rd artist in History to
have her first 3 songs among the best 10 simultaneously, after only The Beatles and Ashanti. Truth is, since she started her career in
music, she hasnt stopped breaking records. She collaborted with the puertorican Ozuna
in the song “La Modelo”, and in January 2018, with Bruno Mars in the remix of Finésse. They performed at the Grammys, where she was
nominated to Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. On April 6th, her so waited for first album
was released, “Invasion of Privacy”. With singles such as Be Careful or I Like
It, with JBalvin and Bad Bunny. it’s conquering lists in half of the world. She has also found time in her tight agenda
to participate with Rita Ora, Bebe (bíbi) Réxha and Chárli XCX in the song Girls. She also collaborates with Jennifer Lopez
and DJ Khaled in Dinero and in Girls Like you by Maroon 5. Cardi B is one of the brightest stars of these
last years. Always faithful to her personality and outspoken,
she was chosen by the Forbes magazine among the most influential artists in the world. Her career seems to be unstoppable. She has become an essential idol in both rap and urban music.
