CUTE + SCARY = SPOOPY! | Making Art with Japanese Halloween Stationery | ZenPop Unboxing

Today we’re gonna be un-boxing the and I’m
pretty sure it’s supposed to be Halloween themed so, I’m really hoping that there’s some ghosties or some pumpkins in here. And once we know what’s inside, then maybe
I’ll try and see if we can make something fun with it. Anyway, let’s find out what’s inside. ♪ This lists all of the items in the box then inside, first thing I see is this green pen. The Zebra Sarsa Clip 0.4. Remove this little blobby on the end of it. Oh, it does write in green! Really scratchy. Doesn’t exactly glide I would say. [Click, click click] We can’t ignore this, what is this? The Youkai block memo pad, with
monsters that are best friends, although that one’s a cat. Is that a turtle? Is that an umbrella? It looks like there are four separate designs on here. There’s the little dancing guys. Another design is – Okay, that’s, that’s really weird. [Pfff] I guess they’re all little monsters. [Hums Jingle bells…?] Cute I really like that one. okay I’m looking at the little sheet ’cause I was like, I need some help with this. So it turns out that Youkai are spirits and demons and monsters from Japanese folklore. So this memo pad features some of the most well-known ones. So the little turtle guy is actually named Kappa. He likes to eat cucumbers and HUMAN GUTS! Hey, I want to know more about all these little guys. What is this!? This is a craft fabric pen. Let’s see if it draws on paper. Fabric paint marker. What color is this? Is it black or orange? Good question. [Squeegee squeegee] Oh, it’s orange, it’s orange! Ooh, fun. Works a lot like a Posca pen. Tempted to draw on my shirt, but I think it’s permanent. [Laughs] And I like this shirt! I’ll have to see if I can find anything to use that on. All right, next thing I see… (Baby voice) It’s a wittle kitty cat. Aw! I got the pastel blue. [Wrapper crinkling] Aw, so cute. It goes on your pencil. It’s a little loose. Look at the cuteness! Let’s do a little spin… Very cute. It’s really solid for like an eraser. Just the amount of detail and like fur and everything. I’m impressed. Alright. Next thing I see is some washi tape. Get it out of this packaging, so you can see it better. It’s got some kind of like abstract metallic design in very Halloween-y colors. I think this one is some kind of pumpkin gourd. [Laughs] It’s very abstract. Not really my personal taste. I prefer – it’d be really cute if it was like little ghosties or something like that, oh kind of like this. [Laughs] Oh, look at the other designs! That one is right up my alley! I really like that one too, but we got this one. I think I’ll be able to find something to do with it though. It’s still – It’s crazy that they can use such simple shapes and designs and it still has… that Halloween vibe to it. We gotta look at these little ghosties. We have some sticker markers. So these are to put on the edge of your paper and they hang out of paper so you know where to look. Oh! That’s so cute. Oh they have tiny tails, ah! I love the packaging. (The way everything folds up and just – ) [Urgh!] Very cute. Okay. I’m already getting an idea of what I want to do with these art supplies. Okay. What’s next? Oh, candy! Yeah. It’s not Halloween without candy, right? This looks like a bunch of stickers. The little vending machine and then it opens up and it reveals the stickers! Oh, and there’s even some secret ones down here, this is cute. Okay. I think I know what I want to make with these. They’re all kind of like fitting together and the theme is really, really helpful. We’re going to make some kind of like a Halloween-y… Illustration or something. What do we has here? This looks like some stationery and letter set. It comes with three envelopes. Nine papers and three of something else that I’m not entirely sure, maybe stickers? Oh, yeah. I think I see them. These are them right there, stickers. Look at the little ghosties with tulips! [Hahaha! Deep inhale] Ooh, we have the three little stickers. We got one waving Hello. We got one giving you the side-eye, one that looks like he’s given up on life. [Creepy sound] These are the three envelopes. They’re all identical. They have pink little fold-y bits. Adorable little ghosties. They look like springtime ghosts to me, and then we have the letter paper. Oh, it’s very thin, light weight paper and it has more of the little flowers. Alright. I think there’s two things left in here. We have another pen. this is the Rushon Petite pen and you can get one of three colors this month. Either purple, orange or red and I got… PURPLE! Can we just celebrate for a moment? ♪ [Tap, tap] Purple! Ooooh! Oh, I really, really like this. Just writes so solidly and bold but it’s small and thin. This would work really well… For writing in your stationery, and the last item in the box is a nice pastel yellow plastic envelope? and it matches… The letter stationery we got. Oh, no, it doesn’t [Pffft] Not at all! So it’s made out of vinyl. The one side is transparent. This little
cardboard piece obviously doesn’t need to be in here. Oh, see now It’s so flimsy. You can still keep like the envelopes right inside. I could also fold the paper. I mean since the paper has to be folded to be put into the envelopes. I don’t see why not. I should probably fold each of them individually. One second. Leave one unfolded in case I need it for my art project I want to do but otherwise, I want to keep it in this little envelope. I think that’s cute idea, especially since it matches. Keep those in here with the envelopes. ♪ Adorable, I like that idea. Oh, is that a little – [Laughs] How did I not notice that? I like how there’s like a little window and one of the little flower ghosties sticks out of it. it can peak through. [Hehe, deep inhale] I tell you. I’m easily amused. These small little touches go a long way, in my opinion. Alright, so that is everything in this month’s box. Now I really want to create some kind of illustration or collage using some of these supplies. So we have three colors in our pens. We have a green and orange and a purple, but I also want to like mix in some other art supplies. But
we’ll definitely have to make sure we use these ones. I think the star of the show might end up being these little guys We have a 120 of them. Don’t know if i’ll need that many. Let me grab a piece of paper. Oh, but I want to try and incorporate these too. Then I can some nail my idea and show you what I want to work on. Grab a pencil and with a pencil at first, I’m gonna thumbnail my little plan I’ve got an idea but I can’t seem to visualize it. I don’t know, it’s just stuck in my head. So I’m gonna just start drawing and then when I figure out what I’m thinking, I’ll start talking again. Gotta include a character. I need to include like the candy stickers. Maybe they have a clear bag. [Gasps] Ooh! I wonder if I could reuse some of this plastic. Draw on it to make it clear and then include little candies underneath of it. Let me know if anyone else had this problem. But I live in a northern state. So any time we went trick-or-treating as a kid, we always had to wear a big coat on top of our costume and it just ruined the whole effect, but you do what you got to do to get the candy, you know. Then the ghosties can be like poking out of everything and maybe hang down from the frame. [Laughs] There we go. [Laughs] To include the cat. Let’s
take a look into the character design of our little witch. This is got a cat food bag on them. Big coat. [Laughs] Maybe the hat won’t be quite as… Out there because they bought it at a Halloween store. Should look a little cheaper. Has that like classic patch on it, sewn into it. I’m gonna include the bag of candy. I still want to try that clear plastic idea. Maybe it’s got like… Spider web designs in the skirt and here we’ll include some candy stickers. And classic sneakers. So you can travel the distance and get all the candy. I think I’m getting somewhere. I really like her. I think she
needs a little bit more contrast in her shapes though So I’m gonna shorten the skirt. Stop weighing her down as much. Give her a little Halloween freckles. Just put this here so I can see them next to each other. Hmm, not sure. Ponder’s some more. I do not like this pen. It is so scratchy. It’s supposed to be like that? I like the little cats on it though. [Sticker peels off] Little ghosty coming out behind her. That’s kinda cool ’cause then you can like lift it and see the same thing underneath of it. Well, this is a water-based pen. We can add water to it! [Click] [Thud] Stick this in here. If I can put it all next to each other, Maybe it’ll help inspire me to be able to include them. I mean we could cut out some of these guys and use them as like decoration on this fence. Oh, then there’s also the possibility of including this somehow. This kind of looks like the fence posts. Because like a gray one, It just goes gray to black and the variation isn’t that strong. Whereas with white, I feel like you can see it better. I don’t know. [Laughs] Anyway, let’s go ahead and erase this lightly. Just give some room for the line art to show through. Go in and add some line art. I think i’ll use some fine-liners for that.
