Digital Arts review | Kathrin Hawelka creates CG artwork on Cintiq 27QHD

My name is Kathrin Hawelka.
I am a CG lead artist at Saddington Baynes My main focus was still images. I take care now of moving images as well, because they get more and more important. Recently, I worked on a campaign for O2.
There was a cat in a space suit. We did the print images. I was responsible for the space suit and the compositing of the images, the lighting and the texturing. I really like the Cintiq 27QHD. It has a great design and it looks really nice on your desk. The resolution is amazing. We do a lot of still images. When you sit in front of this device, you can really see what you are doing and focus on the details much better. I use it for everything. I like doing brush strokes with my arm rather than with the wrist. It is more similar to pen and paper.
That is why I like the size. For the first time, I can use such a display for a print campaign. Colors are critical there.
You need to proof colors and to calibrate your devices. That is now possible, as it shows all the colors. I find it comfortable to work with. You do not have a transition in your head like with a tablet. With a tablet you look at a screen and draw on the table. This bridges the gap in your head.
You go back to the roots and you can see what you are doing. It is so much easier and less stressful for your head. I use a lot of different tools and softwares for image creation. I tested the Cintiq with different software programs.
I quite liked it.
